The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with increased exposure to the characteristics of a psychopath, and to the official scoring criteria in the Psychopathy Checklist – Revised (PCL-R).
To this end, the assignment requires that you do the following:
1. Watch The Iceman Interviews on Richard Kuklinski: Richard Kuklinski: “The Iceman Tapes”
1. Links to an external site.
2. Using this PCL-R Scoring Sheet.docx
Download PCL-R Scoring Sheet.docx, score Kuklinski on each of the 20 items on the PCL-R.
3. Using the PCL-R Explanation Template, justify each score that you assigned to Kuklinski. This is where the majority of your marks will come from, so be succinct, but comprehensive.
4. Calculate Kuklinski’s final PCL-R score and determine whether he did or did not meet criteria for Psychopathy.
What do I mean by ‘justify each score’ that you assigned to Kuklinski?
As you can see by the attached PCL-R Explanation Template, I’m only expecting a short (~ 2-4 line) explanation for each of the PCL-R items. Thus, you do not necessarily need to write a long justification for each item. Rather, you simply need to provide enough information to justify the score that you gave.
Here are a few examples of the types of justifications you could provide (these aren’t about Kuklinski, are just example language to give you a feel for what I’m looking for here):
#5. Conning/Manipulative: Score of 2. The individual often plays tricks on other people, and tries to play on other’s emotions to get what he wants. Examples: partook in a Ponzi scheme that bilked people out of their money, uses fake names and aliases, has affairs or double lives, hides things from his family, partakes in fraudulent activities to make money. Saw no evidence for honesty.
