Assignment 1: Attached you will find two articles, one is a published scientific study that provides yet another piece of evidence showing that there is no link between vaccines and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This has been shown many times over, yet the idea persists in our society due to a small group of social-media savvy believers. The second article is more of an opinion piece, and the author makes their feelings regarding vaccinations very clear.
Your assignment is, of course, to read both critically (make sure you have viewed and understand the video lectures posted regarding the immune system in general and vaccines in particular), and then write a one-paragraph opinion addressing the anti-vaccine movement. It is tempting to say let them do what they want, they are the ones that will get sick, but it’s not that simple, consider people who medically cannot be vaccinated due to allergies, or that kids cannot choice for themselves. In your own personal opinion make your argument, for or against, mandatory vaccinations as a requirement for public school enrollment. Does public health outweigh personal freedoms in this case?? You may include the COVID-19 vaccine in your argument.
