Value Awaeness

Complete the following steps. It’s important that you complete each step thoroughly before moving on. Submit your completed commentary through the drop box provided.
Using the table below as a template, list what is important to you about your life (your education, your job, your car, etc.). There should be at least 8 points on the list, in column 1.
Review your list. Number the items according to their importance to you, with 1 being most important, and 8 being least important. Use column 2 for this.
Review the list again, this time making a note in the third column describing the amount of time and energy you spend on each value. Use hours or estimate the percentage of available time.
With this information in mind, rank your values once again from 1 to 8. Compare the list as it exists now with column 2. Has it changed? How?
Cross-check your values hierarchy by asking yourself the following formatted questions. Note that it is important to do this systematically, and write down the answers. Another way would be to get someone to ask you the questions.
a. Of the values listed, which is the most important to you?
b. Assuming you have (#1 value), is (#2 value) or (#3 value) most important to you?
c. Assuming you have (#1 value), if you couldn’t have (#2 value) but could have (#3 value), would that be OK?
Move down your values hierarchy, adjusting your hierarchy as necessary, and doing your best to answer honestly.
Commentary: Submit a brief paper (250 words or more) describing the results of your work on values. Include the chart. What have you learned about the values you hold in this area of your life? Did your values change? How? What surprised you, if anything? Do you plan to change anything about your life as a result of your findings?
Describe other possible uses for this type of exercise.
