You initiate a traffic stop for
speeding. The driver refuses to comply and you call dispatch to inform them you
are in pursuit. During the pursuit you provide them with the tag number and
description of the vehicle.
It is 2:00 AM, dry conditions. There is light traffic. You have reached 100 mph
in your efforts to keep up with the violator. The pursuit is approaching an
area of your jurisdiction where businesses are going through shift change and
there is a school zone. It starts to rain. As you proceed you are approaching the
end of your jurisdiction. You can no longer reach dispatch by radio.
Based
on the material covered in this course, which factors are relevant and which
are not. Which code sections in Georgia and case laws provide the foundation
for the best decision to continue or end the pursuit?
Describe what your agency policy
would require you to do in this situation.
