Similar to what you have done in paper 1, you will address the concept of the heroic journey; however, you will do so from the perspective of the villain. For the elements of the hero’s journey that are positive, the villain they should be negative (e.g. the ultimate boon for the hero is usually receiving something of value; for the villain, it may be losing something of value). Conversely, elements that are negative for the hero may be positive for the villain. Address Charmant from “Uncharming” and the unnamed villain in “Heart’s Desire” in this way. Include your description of the ultimate villain and address whether these villains meet that standard as well. Please use quotes to support your points and make sure your introduction has a thesis that becomes your focal point in this 1000-1200 word essay.
You do NOT need to use every example of a villain on the document. Please only use the sources I have provided
I Will include the prompt from essay one right here: Joseph Campbell presents his theory of The Hero’s Journey (see notes on Tropes file). In both “Day One” and “The Castle That Jack Built” we see two different heroes on their journeys. While there are many similarities, there are even more differences as well. Discuss in a 1000-1200 word essay Waldo’s and Jack’s journey, whether it follows Campbell’s path, whether there are elements of the characters’ journeys that discount them as heroes, what type of hero they are, whether they successfully fulfill their heroic role and complete their journey (these are more guidelines than a checklist of what to discuss in the paper). Remember not every hero encounters all 12 stages of the journey.
