ESSAY 2: Virtual Explore
Assignment: Explore one or more sites in Google Arts and Cultures. Compose an essay reflecting on what you
found, what you saw, what puzzled you, excited you, etc. Make connections between the explore to your own life,
and to the course content. Explain out these connections using supporting details. Your essay should be no less
than 1000 words. Use MLA format and observe standards for college-level written work.
At a minimum, your essay should address or include some elements of the following:
✓ An Introduction —Where did you “go” and what did you see? Why did you choose these location(s)?
✓ Text(s) — Describe the works you see. If you are exploring a museum this might be the museum itself. It
could also refer to the contents of the site. Describe at least two specific objects (painting, building,
sculpture, drawing, performance, poem, dance, installation, etc.) encountered using appropriate discipline
vocabulary. Be precise and clear. Include dates, locations, scale, materials, as appropriate.
✓ Context— Describe the setting for your tour. Is it a museum? Is it an archaeological site? Find out
something about the original context—the history of what you see. Are there interpretive materials
provided? If these are ancient works, what efforts are being taken to preserve them for future
generations? How does technology impact the way we view these works or experience these sites?
✓ Take-Aways and Conclusion—Make a connection between your virtual experience and your own thinking
or experiences. Explain out the connection. Make at least one connection between your virtual experience
and the course content. Explain out the connection. What can you take away from your “explore?”
