CHOOSING A TOPIC Topics are those which most of us would consider art. (Sculpture, oil painting, architecture, printmaking, graphic design, computer art etc.) Describe the topic (artist, medium, time period, movement etc.), and which direction you intend to take. It is to be on any visual art topic. Possible topics could include but are not limited to, an art show or competition, a newspaper or magazine article you read on a visual art topic, a television show you recently watched on painting, sculpture, visual artist, a specific work or a local work or artist in your community. Please no music oriented papers. Please no da Vinci, Picasso, Van Gogh, Michelangelo, or Warhol unless you select a particular work by these artists. The topics for your paper can range from a wide spectrum. I have read wonderful papers on wood burning, ice sculptures, Christmas decorations, cake decorating, historical fashions and gourd art. Pick something that is of interest to you and you would like to learn more about (any artist, movement, or technique).
3000 WORD PAPER As for the paper or what I like to call the “commentary”, I use the term commentary, for the lack of a better one, well, so, possibly, you will realize you need to include your opinions and emotions on the subject selected. Visual Art papers only. The commentary is basically a research paper with at least 3 resources (which MUST be listed at the end of your paper). The Internet is an acceptable source. You must cite your sources and list them at the end of your paper as well as your word count (echo). No Wikipedia or Encarta. Cite your sources within the content any way you feel comfortable with. (I prefer MLA) Include history regarding the subject. If you have chosen a work of art describe the work using the elements of art and the principles of design as well as any other terminology you have learned in your book.
