Vulnerable Population Presentation Guidelines
Purpose:
To explore a specific vulnerable population to assess the healthcare needs of the population. In addition, to describe and analyze both the impact of the community on the vulnerable population and the vulnerable populations impact on the community
Assignment:
1) This project will consist of a PowerPoint presentation
a. No more than 10 slides in length (not including reference or cover page)
b. Presentation should include information in the notes section for each slide except title and references as if you were verbally giving the presentation.
2) Utilize one of the vulnerable populations from the list below
Income and education
Age and gender
Race and ethnicity
Chronic illness and disability
HIV/AIDS
Mental illness and disability
Alcohol and substance abuse
Familial abuse
Homelessness
Suicide and homicide risk
High-risk mothers and infants
Immigrants and refugees
3) Slides must address the following topics:
a. Identification of vulnerable population: who have you chosen as your population and why are they considered vulnerable?
b. Use statistics to describe the population you chose. Compare data from local, state, and national sources related to your chosen vulnerable population.
c. What are the health disparities for your chosen population?
i. Describe nursing approaches to care for the groups health related concern
d. How does the healthcare system impact this population? What impact does this population have on the healthcare system?
e. What ethical concerns need to be addressed?
f. Does Healthy People 2020 address this population?
4) APA format is required, as well as a reference slide with at least three (3) references. Your textbook can be used as a reference for this project however, cannot be one of the three references that are required.
5) Utilize course content, your textbooks, professional journal articles, and professional websites as references for your work.
6) Slides and Speaker Notes must be formatted using APA style. (Reminder: photos, drawings, graphs, etc. when used on a slide must be cited to avoid violating copyright law).
