The Matrix is a 1999 effort by Lana and Lilly Wachowski to create a modern-day adaptation of Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.” Go read the Plato text, and then return to answer this question. List 2-3 similarities and differences between Plato’s text and the film. Pick one of the similarities or differences you listed and discuss why you think it’s important to your understanding of the film.
Although the Wachowskis intended to create a film that re-contextualized the most famous elements of Plato’s The Republic for a modern audience, if we look closely, we could argue that The Matrix is really a dramatic interpretation of Marx’s notion of class warfare.
