YOU DO NOT NEED ANY SOUCES FOR THIS ASSIGNENT.
For this assignment, we want to focus on the first part – being as creative as possible about our business ideas. Even if you have an existing idea in mind, sometimes creativity can add to it in ways that you may have never imagined.
Creativity is extremely important in business and in everyday life. These are topics that are rarely discussed in college, and I encourage you to engage with the chapter material, and learn concepts that you can use for years to come.
There are two parts to this week’s assignment, so please read below. To do the assignment, you are going to utilize the below list of questions that are used to spur imagination. These questions are:
QUESTIONS TO SPUR IMAGINATION
Is there a new way to do it?
Is there a substitute?
What if you do just the opposite?
What if you added or combined this with something else to create something entirely new?
Could this be altered to serve a new market that’s not being served today?
Can you put it to other uses?
Can you reverse it or rearrange it?
Can you re engineer it?
(You are free to create imagination questions of your own to spark your creativity!)
PART 1: Use the above questions to brainstorm solutions to the following problem:
“Our landfills are filling up with old TV’s and computer monitors that take up space and can pollute soil and groundwater. The problem is only getting worse, as more of the world adopts the use of TV’s and computers. There are regulations in certain municipalities that are meant to prohibit illegal dumping of these electronics, but these regulations alone have not solved the problem.”
Now, choose five of the questions above that spur imagination and use them to create a solution to the problem described. For each, you will write the “imagination” question that you are using, and propose AT LEAST one solution for it. Do this for each of the five questions you chose. You should end up with at least five different (and somewhat plausible) solutions to this problem to get full credit.
PART 2: Same as above, but new problem.
“The increased use of smartphones and social media are creating a problem with distracted driving – which is now one of the leading causes of driving fatalities.”
Same as above, choose five of the questions above that spur imagination and use them to create a solution to the problem described. For each, you will write the “imagination” question that you are using, and propose AT LEAST one solution for it. Do this for each of the five questions you chose. You should end up with at least five different (and somewhat plausible) solutions to this problem to get full credit.
While this is a straightforward assignment, it is one that students find fairly challenging. You are being asked to utilize your raw creativity, which is something that college assignments rarely ask for. So go ahead, relax, and enjoy using your creative mind to come up with these ideas.
