What advice would you give to middle schoolers about navigating social media?

Teenagers make mistakes as they learn how to become more independent. But cell phones and the internet are shaping the process, making it all more public. It seems a generation of children growing up today, including my children, consider their phones almost as extensions of their bodies. They are so comfortable with them. They have an instant audience for every gesture and expression.
She continues, I saw that my children and their friends documented much of their lives on the screens of phones and laptops. I began to think of them as inhabiting two worlds: the touchable, physical world and the digital world. They slipped back and forth between them. . . . I was interested in a girl of thirteen navigating the two worlds.
