What is your job? What was your educational and occupational pathways that led you to this position?
What are explicit job responsibilities and what are additional duties you perform?
How do you view your public sector job different than one in a similar private sector field?
In what ways do you interact with the public?
In what ways do you interact with elected officials?
How are you held accountable for your job performance and ethical standards?
What are particular challenges and opportunities facing your professional field or specific job?
What are your most and least favorite parts of your job?
How do you collaborate with other governmental, non-profit, and / or private sector entities to achieve your mission?
What strategies have you employed to achieve economy (careful management of resources), efficiency (achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense), effectiveness (the degree to which something is successful in producing a desired result), and / or equity (the quality of being fair) as they provide a public service.
Recall a recent project you completed, what was it, and what were unexpected hurdles and successes you encountered while you reached your outcome?
What advice would you give those wanting to enter into public service?
To complete Part B, you will submit your post-interview notes, in a narrative format (i.e. not bullet points or Q&A style), a copy of the thank you email you send to the person you interviewed, and a list of potential issues you plan to research in the literature that relates to the content of the interview.
