Assignment #1: Strikingly: Event Webpage
Go to the Blackboard site and watch the Strikingly video’s, review the help documents and create a Strikingly account. Everything you need to do this is located in the Blackboard site.
In this assignment you are going to create an Event’s Website (you can use any topic). I like to encourage my students to try and use a topic or event that means something to them. My goal would be for you to be able to use this site once it is built. Students in the past have created event pages for; Weddings, Graduations, Baby Showers, Club Events, Trips, Online Gaming Events or just an event that is personally going on in your life.
Strikingly is considered a web based platform. What is a web based platform? It is an application that runs on the web, that is completely independent of the user’s actual computer operating system. They contain technologies such as computer languages (HTML/CSS). Starting a website is much easier and cheaper than it used to be thanks to the variety of user-friendly “DIY” web based platforms.
When creating your Event Webpage please keep the following in mind, and you may need to do some additional research on your own.
Your target audience
The Visual Design of your site
Color and font usage
Best practices for writing web content
Navigation for your site (Home, About, Contact pages)
Most of these things were talked about in the freeCodeCamp activities you completed for HTML/CSS.
Strikingly also offers several additional add-ons, widgets, and apps that will enhance your page. Make sure to check these out and apply at least one to your event page.
This assignment will be worth 20 points. Attached is a Rubric for this assignment, and I have also outlined a few items below that I would like to see: Strikingly Web Event Rubric
Pick an Event
Choose a page layout (style)
Make it your own (I expect to see some effort put into this assignment)
Be creative
Change the background images
Change the background colors
Use appropriate Fonts
Add at least one additional add-on, widget and/or app
Use your own content (wording). Make sure to keep this area simple and follow some best practices for writing web content (you may have to do some research here).
Use your own contact information
Most of all, Have fun………..
Once completed, publish your site (yes, the site will need to be published or I won’t be able to view and grade it). You will then upload your Strikingly website link to the Assignment area in Blackboard.
Also, I would like for you to upload your site to the Yellowdig discussion board area, for your classmates to review. Make sure to use the “Strikingly Event Page” tag so that we can easily find your submission.
