What are some situations in which the bias in question might be particularly problematic?

Critical Thinking Assignment: Choose one of the Options below
Option #1: In our chapter on thinking, the textbook describes several cognitive biases (i.e. heuristics) that can interfere with our ability to solve problems and make rational decisions and judgments. For your paper, you need to pick one of the biases named in the textbook and write about how it may affect real-world problem-solving and/or decision-making. You can write about your personal experiences, the general experiences of people, and/or about a particular situation in the news. What are some situations in which the bias in question might be particularly problematic? What are some situations in which the bias is not problematic, or may even be adaptive (beneficial)? Your answers to these questions should be explained thoroughly.
Option#2: In the chapter on Human Development, Piaget’s influential theory of cognitive development is described. For your paper, take a trip to the toy store, and carefully examine the toys intended for various age groups. Using concepts from Piaget’s theory (and/or Kohlberg’s theory, which is related), discuss the extent to which various toys are (or are not) age-appropriate. Be sure to thoroughly explain your judgments, and if you determine a toy is not age-appropriate, offer suggestions based on scientific theories about human development.

Compose your paper in MS Word or a compatible word processing program. Your paper should be 1 or 2 pages in length, single-spaced, standard margins, 12-point font. There should be a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. The standards for writing assignments apply. Cite all outside sources clearly using your preferred format.
