Steps to writing your thesis statement:
Choose a specific topic. Narrow the subject matter prior to drafting a thesis statement. Decide what specific aspect of the subject matter the essay will focus on. What are the advantages of the topic and what are the disadvantages of the topic?
Select related questions. Determine what questions you want to investigate for your essay. Use the information to form a specific question that ensure that it is clearly related to your topic of discussion.
Answer the question(s). Express your ideas about the answer to the question in the form of a statement. Depending on the topic, you may need to conduct initial research before deciding how the question should be answered.
Tweak the answer you came up with for the question so that it becomes the thesis statement for your essay or paper. Be concise and engaging.
The thesis statement will provide the main point or primary argument.
Annotations Pick 10 articles on a topic that will be summarized. Five will be used for pros of the topic. Five will be used for the cons of the topic.
You must first choose a topic or sociological problem that you are interested in. You are then required to use 10 professional references to complete your annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is an organized list of sources with accompanying paragraphs, called annotations. The annotation gives information about the relevance and quality of the sources you cited through a 150-250 words description or interpretation of the source. Annotation helps you to delve into the topic more critically. It helps you to develop your thesis statement. There are three (3) different parts of an annotated bibliography include:
Title The title of the article
Citation Author’s name, Year of publication, Title, Source (Must be cited in APA style format)
Annotation In your annotation, summarize the main points of the source. Be sure to summarize the main points using your own words. Do not copy and paste information directly from the source. Your second paragraph will explain how the source is relevant to your paper. Explain how this particular source will help you develop one or more of the main points.
Analysis An analysis is a detailed analysis of the pros and cons. It involves comparing and contrasting of the pros and cons of the topic. It presents a specific argument about the topic and supports that argument with evidence.
Conclusion Concluding paragraphs should be clear and sum up what you have presented in your research without sounding redundant. An effective concluding paragraph can also add impact to what you have presented in your paper. Pick a stance based on your pros or cons and discuss your findings. Why you support one side instead of the other and tell your experience in annotated bibliography.
References A reference list is a list of the publication information for the sources you’ve cited in your paper and is intended to give your readers all the information they need to find those sources. In other publication styles, this list may be called a bibliography, or a works cited page, but APA uses the term reference list. You must have a minimum of 10 professional references with a date of publication no later than five years old (2016-2021).
