Term Paper
The goal of the term paper is to show how well you can read, understand and synthesize scientific information from academic publications, and apply your critical evaluation of the material. The paper will be a roughly 1000 word essay in which you summarize multiple peer-reviewed publications, and evaluation the quality of the knowledge.
General mechanics
Generally, a term paper means a lot of reading. The first step is to browse the literature for a topic you are interested in. This step will take weeks because selecting the scope of your paper is the first challenge: picking a topic that is too vague means having to review thousands of papers, and too many concepts to cover. You don’t have the space to do that in 1000 words. Selecting a topic that i s too narrow means you can’t find any papers. Selecting a topic without any disagreements means you will have a hard time critiquing the results. Finding old articles could mean that the research field is obsolete. In sum, finding the right scope is critical and will be decisive in whether you sail through the paper or find it a significant challenge.
Style
The paper must follow APA style strictly. I highly recommend purchasing the APA Style book (7th edition), which will come handy in many courses you take during your undergrad. Exceptions to the APA style:
Direct quotes are not permitted in this document. Paraphrase all information from other peer-reviewed publications
When referencing, do not use “Retrieved from” element. Instead, include the doi element
Topic
You will watch the documentary, “Dosed” and read the attached peer-reviewed article. It is not necessary to look for other peer-reviewed articles, but you are welcome to conduct your own research on platforms such as Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com). As you write your term paper, answer the following questions. Each questions should be answered in 1-2 paragraphs.
What are Psychedelics, and summarize the documentary, Dosed
What are the advantages, strengths or new opportunities of Psychedelics?
What are the weaknesses, limitations and dangers of Psychedelics?
