research waiting children in your community. In this week’s live session, you are asked to
present a profile of children in you
r community who are in the custody of the public child welfare
agency and awaiting adoption. Using a combination of online resources and in-person
interviews, please write a paper that answers the following questions:
1. How many children in foster care are waiting for permanent families in your community?
2. What are the demographic characteristics of the waiting children (e.g., age, race, length
of time in care, members of sibling group)?
3. What are their reasons for coming into care?
4. How long have the children been waiting?
5. How have the populations of waiting children changed in the last 5 to 10 years (in
number, demographics, or reasons for entering care)?
6. What strategies are being used to find families for these children?
7. What are the community’s greatest challenges in finding families for waiting children?
8. Based on your review of the professional literature and other materials that you find,
what suggestions would you make for strengthening the current approach(es)?
