• Using Sherry Ortner’s book “Life and Death in Mount Everest,”
explain the violent conflict between Sherpa’s and Climbers in April 2013. Describe the
conflict and explain the intersection of ethnicity, nationality, religion, globalization and
Himalayan climbing. Explain the concepts of Zhindak and Yidam in Sherpa culture. Why
are they relevant when we try to understand why Ueli Steck was subject to a lynching
attempt?
