Conflict/Divorce Essay
Purpose:
Many families experience conflict within the family unit, or divorce. Adolescents are, of course, affected by these experiences. You will write about the effects of conflict/divorce on the adolescent based on what you know about adolescent identity development and autonomy.
Instructions:
Answer all of the following questions and support your answers with scholarly resources.
How does conflict/divorce impact development (social, cognitive, emotional). How does it impact identity development and the development autonomy of teens?
Identify at least five factors the determine the impact of family conflict/divorce on an adolescent. Are there resilience factors that play a role? Identify at least 3 resilience factors that can mediate the negative effects of family conflict/divorce on an adolescent’s development.
What are the possible long term effects of conflict/divorce? How does it potentially influence future relationships (peer, romantic, and/or familial)?
Address how family systems theory views divorce/conflict.
Based on the available research, what advice would you give parents of adolescents who are going through a divorce? Give at least 5 suggestions for possible interventions that parents can do or involve their teens in to help with experiencing family conflict/divorce.
