What are these products telling us about society’s standard of beauty? Are they just selling us false hope in order for them to buy their products ? Are they putting their products and profit over our health? For my term paper I would want the focus to be about semiotics. I want to concentrate on how major beauty businesses use semiotics and consumer culture to show how they view beauty and feminism among most black women through their marketing strategies. I was inspired by Murray, “Branding ‘Real’ Social Change in Dove’s Campaign for Real beauty.” I want my focus to be on women of color specifically because of the many projects that are being sold and marketed like skin bleaching creams, hair relaxers and more. We also see these European standards of being beauty and feminism being transcribed in everyday work life, tv shows and movies. What are these products telling us about society’s standard of beauty? Are they just selling us false hope in order for them to buy their products ? Are they putting their products and profit over our health?
