Why are primary-care providers (PCPs) best suited to provide palliative care for their patients?
Ideally primary care providers come to know the patient and family, individualize care for the patient based on ta long understanding of who they are and what their life has entailed develop a full understanding of the needs and challenges faced by people with life threatening illnesses, and can develop a plan to reduce suffering and pain. Providing palliative care in the primary car setting by creating teams led by NP seems the ideal method to promote end of life care, reduce the costs of unnecessary aggressive care, improve the quality of life of adults experiencing life threatening illnesses and provide comfort, compassion and caring for patients and families at this difficult time (Dunphy et al., 2019).

I must make sure that I am giving person-centered and family focused care (Dunphy, et. al., 2019). I must also provide clinician-patient communication and advance care planning along with professional education and development for myself and my team (Dunphy, et. al., 2019). There should also be a policy and payment system to support palliative care across all settings (Dunphy, et. al., 2019). Public education and engagement is also a must (Dunphy, et. al., 2019).
