Discrimination always involves making distinctions; the question is which kinds of distinctions are deemed fair and just and which are viewed as unfair and wrong. In this discussion you will consider the idea of systemic racism.

How has systemic racism affected educational attainment and occupational achievement in the United States? Back up your statements with sources and examples.
The idea was presented that employers consciously make decisions about who to call back based on things like a name or perhaps the school you attended (race and ethnicity can often be determined by what neighborhood you grew up in and where you went to school). What are your thoughts on this idea? Justify your response.
Colleges often admit students based on race and ethnicity using a quota system? Do you agree with this system? Justify your response.
Consider the solutions presented at the end of the video. Evaluate these proposed solutions.
Consider using Carmichael & Hamilton’s concept of institutional prejudice and discrimination to justify your answers. Make reference to sociological theory in your response.
