This essay will need to be referential to my coursework, which I will submit both here and in additional material. I would like my writer to contact me so we can clarify some of the details. I will submit some of the guidance my tutor asked for on this essay, I.e. boxes that need to be ticked: Before you start to write, you should spend some time thinking about what ‘material culture’ can tell us about religion. You are being asked to look closely at a specific location of ‘material religion’ and consider how it has changed over time. You might want to think about the idea that religious objects have a ‘social career’ (see Section 3 of the online materials for Unit 7). Before you start writing, you may want to create some bullet points about the material features of the Crypt at specific points in time. Pay particular attention to both what is present and what is absent at different times. You may want to think about how the space has changed in response to particular social, cultural and/or political events. You also need to consider ‘what people do with things’ in your comparison. In what ways are people behaving differently in the Crypt in each time period? How does this reflect changes in the practice of Christianity? Your task is not to simply describe the material elements of the Crypt (or note their absence), but to consider in what ways the Crypt provides evidence of change in the Christian traditions.
