Length:
500 words (sort of)
Instructions:
This assignment will explore the social groups in which you are involved. This is a classification and
definition assignment, with yourself as the focus. In other words, your goal is to explain to your
audience what groups you are engaged with in general. Then you will tighten the focus. Choose one of
the groups (preferably the one you are most involved in), and explore how that group is portrayed in
popular culture—especially online culture. By the time you are done, your audience should have a clear
picture of the different ways this group is seen by culture, and understand whether or not you agree
with that portrayal.
The Format:
For this assignment, you will be creating a simple webpage using Adobe Spark. In order to use the
service (which is free), you need to first set up your Adobe Account. Click on the blue “Get Started for
Free” button and follow the instructions.
Once you have done that, watch the walkthrough video in the Week 1 Module for how to create your
actual page. You will need to have the following sections:
Title
List of 10 social groups you are a part of
Specific Group you will focus on
Three portrayals of this social group (each with image/video)
One positive, one negative, and a third one of your choice
A summary section: What can the reader learn about how your group is portrayed? Is it
accurate?
A Works Cited Section (cite any images or external information)
