What changes in children’s family income make a difference in inequality in U.S. schools? The book describes some changes, but I want to hear from my classmates about what changes they have seen or experienced.

Question 2:

Discussion Question: Textbooks, Patriotism, and the “Hidden Curriculum”, pg. 247
Within this subtopic, the accuracy of textbook depictions is discussed. The following sentence was difficult for me to process at first due to some complex wording: “The My Lai massacre is mentioned in ever more textbooks, but it is presented as an abberation to what textbooks depict as a high-minded, if ignorant and incompetent (and at the highest levels dishonest, war effort.” Using context clues, I understood how the accuracy of textbook account was being question but did not understand this sentence, which led me to ask the question: “Are the authors asserting that the My Lai massacre should have been presented as a moral war effort, or that is was an aberration that it was presented that way? With not much background knowledge on the subject, I decided to do some research and came to the conclusion that authors likely meant to say “the My Lai massacre, a dishonest war effort, was presented poorly in relation to what other textbooks present as dishonest war efforts”. The wording can be tricky, but this is my understanding of the subject.
