Holcombe and Arrighi are both concerned with relations between East Asian states and how this system collapsed during the 19th century. Compare how each author presents the East Asian interstate system, its collapse, and what replaced it. Consider the evidence they use as well as their points of emphasis. What conclusions can be drawn by reading these two pieces together? (It is not necessary to use any chpaters in Holcombe earlier than his discussion of the Ming Dynasty.) Because you are only comparing two texts, the only citiation necessary is last name and page number. [Ex. (Arrighi, 315)]. Be sure to cite your papers thoroughly, which means each time your use a number, uncommon date, quote, or core claim from on of the authors.
