Module 3 Summary & Reflections
In this module you have learned about 1) learning analytics, human performance improvement, and performance support; and 2) the application of instructional design and technology (IDT) to various educational, corporate, and cultural settings. You will summarize what you have read and reflect on what you have learned in this module.
1. Write a two-part paper after you have completed the Module 3 readings and discussion posts.
Part 1: New Directions in IDT. Base your response on a) Reiser & Dempsey (R&D) Chapters 12, 14, and 15; and b) our class discussion of Module 3’s Questions Sets 1 in your discussion group.
Summarize the most significant learning points you learned during the module based on the readings, discussions, and additional resources suggested or found covering the readings and Question Set 1 in the discussion.
Reflect on how what you have learned and thought about during these readings and discussion that applies to your professional development and work.
Incorporate responses to the following questions into Part 1 of your paper:
How will the information cover in the chapters listed above and the Discussion Questions Set 1 affect how you might approach improving learning in an online environment (actual or hypothetical), in terms of using learner data to improve learning during the course for each learner, and for long-term improvements in the effectiveness of the course?
What could be done to improve human performance in an educational or training setting? Give some specific examples that might apply to your setting or a hypothetical setting.
Provide some examples of performance support you have encountered or types of performance support you could foresee in the future.
Part 2: IDT in Various Settings. Base your response on a) the R&D Section IV readings; and b) our class discussion of Module 3’s Questions Set 2.
Summarize the most significant learning points you learned during the module based on the readings, discussions, and additional resources suggested or found covering the R&D Section V readings and Questions Set 2 discussion listed above.
What are similarities and differences for conducting instructional design in at least four different settings?
Reflect on how what you learned and thought about during the module applies to your professional development and work. Incorporate responses to the following questions into your Part 2 of your paper:
How will the information in the R&D Section IV readings and the Questions Set 2 discussion affect how you approach working in various work settings in the future? Refer to more than one setting if you can.
What surprised you the most when learning about in instructional design in settings that were new to you?
How might instructional design approaches in one setting inform the design of instruction in another setting? (state which two settings)
Describe key differences between instructional design approaches in the U.S. and international settings in Korea or Japan. You can address K-12, higher education, or business settings.
What more would you like to learn about in regards to the information covered in the R&D Section IV readings and the Questions Set 2 discussion?
2. Your paper should be double-spaced and about two pages in length (one page for each of the two parts). There should be one-inch margins at the top, bottom, left, and right. Text should be in 12-point serif font. Include your name in the top right corner of each page. Use proper academic English. Use APA style formatting for any citations and references you provide. The Purdue OWL APA Guidelines or the APA Publications Manual will help you create the citations in the text and the corresponding references.
