What did you find to be the most interesting, strange, or revealing aspect of the assigned reading?

Please read the attached articles and then follow the instructions below:

Step One/Paragraph One: Summarize a part or all of the assigned reading. Be sure to suspend judgment in this first step. Your goal is to convince me that you’ve read closely and understand the material. Be sure to use page numbers when you paraphrase or quote material. (Do not consult sources outside of the reading for reading responses.)
Step Two/Paragraph Two: What did you find to be the most interesting, strange, or revealing aspect of the assigned reading? (Note: I’m not asking you what you liked or didn’t like, agreed or didn’t agree with.) In your response provide a couple of examples, use page numbers when appropriate.
Step Three/Paragraph Three: Barton makes some provocative claims about the limits, metaphors, and consequences of literacy. Identify the one you find most provocative and pose two open-ended questions related to it. Note: These questions should begin with “to what extent”; “in what ways”; “to what degree”; “how” or “who”. Your goal is to provoke thought, reflection, and discussion. 🙂
