Prompt 1: The Narration/ Descriptive Strategy
Based on what you have learned about the narration and descriptive rhetorical strategies, write a paragraph or brief paper about one of the following:
An event from your childhood that led to a truth about life
Something memorable that happened at school that gave you a truth about life
Something that happened at work that revealed a truth about the job, your profession or life in general
An event that helped you understand an intangible concept such as love, loyalty, patriotism, sacrifice, etc.
An incident in which you felt a sense of déjà vu or that an event was more than a coincidence–“the stars aligning,” a “God sighting,” etc. that led to a clear understanding of a larger truth in life
A time you witnessed something in nature that made an impression on you or gave new meaning to your life
To be successful on this assignment, you must include the realization from the event ( the epiphany) and you must include sensory descriptive language. After writing, the narrative, go back and layer in description., Without descriptive langauge, you will not receive full credit.
Your paper should contained detailed paragraphs that illustrate both narration and description The writing should include the following:
For each paragraph, ( except the introduction) A topic sentence / thesis statement that states your claim for the paragraph
Evidence in the form of experience, observation, or testimony
Analysis of the possible significance of that event: What did you learn from this experience that has informed your later life What larger truth about life — called an epiphany — did you reach?
A conclusion that answers the question, “So what?” Why should your audience care? What is your audience’s “take-away”? How did the event change you?
