Individualized Safety Plan
You will be asked to develop
a safety plan for a person of your choice using the VIGOR model http://www.thevigor.org/vigor-safety-planning-tool.
This requires you to interview someone (a friend, family member, classmate,
etc.) and create an individualized safety plan for that person. You are not expected to find people who are
currently in an abusive relationship to do this exercise with. This
safety plan should not be developed for someone you are in an intimate partner relationship
with. The reflection of your interview/interaction should respect their
confidentiality and not reveal identifying information.
You
will be asked to provide a reaction paper (4 pages) addressing the process of
developing the safety plan, the issues it brought up, and the feelings attached
to the exercise by both you and the safety plan recipient. You are encouraged to tie in course materials
and what you have learned from class with your reflection.
Issues to address in your reaction paper:
1.
A comprehensive
description of the recipient of the safety plan (with respect to confidentiality)
and how their identities and intersectionality may impact them either to their
detriment or benefit
o
I.e. gender, age,
ethnicity/race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, ability, relationship
status, place of residence, employment status, education, personality,
political affiliation, etc.
2.
The process
and impact of completing the safety plan for the recipient
o
What was the
recipient’s understanding intimate partner violence?
o
Did the safety
plan bring up any emotions for the recipient?
o
How well did this
plan match the needs of your recipient?
3.

and impact of completing the safety plan for you

plan exercise bring up any emotions for you?
