This discussion will require you to conduct research on the crime trends of five (5) comparably sized U.S. cities (noted by population) using the Bureau of Justice Statistics
and municipal law enforcement websites. You must choose a different set of cities than your classmates.
Select five (5) comparably sized U.S. cities and compare the rates of violent crime, property crime, and overall crime indices over a five year period (as close to 2012-2016 as possible). Refer to your text and other readings for guidance on comparing crime statistics. Next, access the police department websites for the cities you have chosen (you must choose cities with PD websites) and evaluate the quality of information posted. Determine if the cities have crime analysis units and/or conduct crime mapping. As you post your findings, be sure to minimally address the following:
Which of your chosen cities have the most crime?
Is crime going up and down in the cities you have examined?
What do you think accounts for any changes in the crime rates?
What information supports your reasoning?
What do the findings mean and what impact might they have on local policy?
Please post an initial response of ~ 250 words, and remember to respond to two other people’s postings.
