Use the rhetorical situation to help you here! Your audience for this piece is your professor and your peers in this course. We are all studying rhetorical concepts together, and you are all also in the same EPS 35 Astronomy course together. What do you notice in your initial analysis of the rhetorical situation of these three texts that you think is possibly interesting to share with your audience at this moment? For example, is there something interesting about the different purposes and/or exigencies of the three texts? Or, is there something interesting about how the different audiences of the three texts influence them? The point at this step in the assignment is to identify and zoom in on a point you’d like to make to your readers about your rhetorical analysis of these three texts. You might notice that this assignment falls into the category of the “open writing assignment” (Levin 13), in that it doesn’t tell you exactly what to do. Instead, it demands that you identify something you feel is worth saying about your rhetorical analysis of these three texts.
In your paper, you should make strategic choices as a writer to maximize the clarity and effectiveness of your writing for your readers. How should you arrange – in terms of paragraphs or sections – your writing so that it works best for readers? How will you refer to and possibly cite your three texts within your writing so readers can understand your analysis of them? How will you use word choice, voice, and tone to keep your readers engaged in the point you’re making throughout your entire document?
Please prepare this paper as a PDF, docx, or rtf file. This rhetorical analysis paper should be at least 500 words long, but can be longer than this.
Basic physical formatting guidelines:
Include a heading in the upper left-hand corner that includes your full name, the name and section number of this course (Eng 12/12A0-89P), and the date on which you are submitting the paper;
Double space the entire paper;
Provide a way readers can find the three texts you are referring to in your paper. If you know MLA style already, feel free to use that (we will all use it later this semester). Instead, if you know how to hyperlink within the text of your paper, please feel free to do that, as it provides an easy way for readers to jump to the texts you refer to.
Please add page numbering to your paper, and position those page numbers on the top right-hand corner of each page.
