Based on the readings and own initial thoughts, ideas, assumptions, and experiences, outline your response to the question “what does it mean to do queer geography”? As part of response, be sure to specifically highlight interest (or skepticism) in the possibility of using maps to document queer lives, spaces, and livelihoods. : can the map, a thoroughly imperial, masculinisit, and power-laden tool, be brought to bear on questions of queer history (general OR Southern)? To emphasize the second part of that question, consider just how difficult it is for people to come to a consensus on the geographical boundaries of the South (note that this is only one example of attempts at trying to make sense of where a regional boundary starts and stops). What factors limit how one might draw this boundary (e.g. why were states selected as the enumeration category? who was asked and where have they lived?).
