Create a PowerPoint or other academic-style presentation on your chosen herb/supplement that will
be used as lecture material in the second half of the course. The presentation should be thorough
and contain enough information for fellow students to comprehend the topics on their own. This
assignment is worth a total of 50 points. The presentation should include:
1. Title Slide (herb/supplement, your name, etc.) 2 points
2. What is the supplement and where does it come from? (i.e. flower, tree, hormone, vitamin,
etc.) Please be as detailed as possible! 3 points
3. History of the supplement’s use prior to current uses. 4 points
4. What form(s) does the particular supplement come in (i.e. tincture, capsule, etc.)? 2 points
5. What are the current popular uses (list ALL)? 3 points
6. What dosages are recommended for each current use listed in number 5? If set dosages have
not been set this should be indicated. 3 points
7. What collective level of scientific evidence exists for each of the different current uses listed in
number 5? (Example: Evidence strongly supports, does not support, is inconclusive, etc.) 5
points
8. What are the side effects and safety concerns of this supplement? 5 points
9. Specifically, what is known about the safety of long-term use? 2 points
10. Identify all medication, other supplement, and food interactions (note if none are known or
present for each – medication, supplements, and food). 5 points
11. Who should take the supplement? 3 points
12. Who should not take the supplement and why? 3 points
13. References listed in correct APA format (at least 3 scholarly sources must be used; no .com
websites other than ConsumerLab.com). 2 points

14. Good organization/flow – 2 points
15. Free of spelling/grammatical errors – 2 points
16. Creative/appealing to view (and includes pictures) – 2 points
17. Easy to understand (enough detail provided) – 2 points

outside resources to obtain more detailed information! (You may need to visit the OU library, public
library, Barnes & Noble, or other places to find books with this information). Please do not use any
‘.com’ websites other than ConsumerLab as these are not considered scholarly sources! Also
remember this is an upper level course, and the material/presentation should reflect your capability as
a student at this level.
* Record an audio clip that accompanies your presentation. The clip should cover each
slide thoroughly.
