What are transnational corporations and how have they developed? What is distinctive about the globalization of production (and what political-economic and technological conditions made it possible)? What drives global outsourcing and how has it changed national industrialization strategies in developing countries (see Baldwin reading and PPT summary)? With this in mind, assess the globalization debates between Wolf, Rodrik and Teeple. Do we need more globalization to further ‘The Great Convergence’ of rich and poor countries (Baldwin, Wolf) or less globalization to preserve democracy and sovereignty at national scales (Rodrik, Teeple)?
