Dweck,
Carol S. Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. New York: Random House, 2006.
Print.
Carol
S. Dweck is an American psychologist and Lewis and Virginia Eaton professor and
professor, by courtesy, of education. Who has conducted lots of research and
shared lots of successful stories and states what are the possible ways to
inhibit in order to be successful. For students to have success in their
college-level academic career, they need to have a growth mindset and have
Passion and perseverance. Because with a growth mindset students can focus more
on the results than the process. If one has a growth mindset will be able to
achieve their goals since they are aware of the obstacles they face in college.
As Dweck states in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, that
people with a growth mindset always compare success with learning and growing
more they embrace challenges. Consequently, to have success in college one must
be ready for all the setbacks and challenges then they will be able to be
successful. Because my research will be about what habits a student can develop
to have success at college level. so I believe that Dweck Mindset will help me
to prove my point of view.
Duckworth,
Angela. Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance. Scribner, 2016.
Angela
Duckworth, the author of Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Is an
American psychologist, states that Grit leads to more success and Gritty people
will have more success in the long term. The author shares stories of people
who had Grit in them and she also explains that people who have Grit will achieve
more in their lives. Therefore, it is necessary to understand if a student
wants to be successful in college must have grit in them. because the term Grit
means passion and perseverance which both are helping students to achieve their
degrees and be successful. Grit is very important for students therefore, I
choose this to back up my point on how students can be successful in college.
Dembo,
Myron H., and Helena. Seli. Motivation and Learning Strategies for College
Success : a Focus on Self-Regulated Learning
Dembo et al: explains that to be successful
in college one should develop some strategies to manage their behavior,
motivation, and learning process. To be able to succeed in college one should
be able to change their learning behaviors because college is different from
high school. The authors also explain in detail what are the learning behaviors
and why they are important for one’s success in college. This source is
important for my research because the article is being peer reviewed, and it is
a good example to prove my point of how to be successful in college.
Yazedjian, Ani, et al.
““It’s a Whole New World”: A Qualitative Exploration of College Students’
Definitions of and Strategies for College Success.” Journal of College Student
Development, vol. 49 no. 2, 2008, p. 141-154. Project MUSE, doi:10.1353/csd.2008.0009
Yazedjian, Ani, et al are of various
backgrounds who have written the article about some strategies on how students
can be successful in the college as the authors states “suggested that persistence in college is related not
only to students’ initial integration, but also to their ongoing academic and
social integration. Therefore, it is important to consider not only academic
integration, but also social integration”(Yazedjian 1). So, for one to
be successful they have to make allies in the college where they can share
their ideas and can help each other to be successful. This will support my
research because the article has used some good strategies for students’
success.
Hazard, Laurie. “Cultivating the Habits of Mind
for Student Success and Achievement.” Research & Teaching in
Developmental Education, vol. 29, no. 2, New York College Learning Skills
Association, 2013, pp. 45–48.
The author explains what are the most important steps for
students to achieve their educational goal. The reason i am using this article
becuase this has been peer reviewed and it is from an academic journal. It will
help me support my claim of the keys to success for students is to have a right
mindset to face any obstecle in order to be acheive their goals.
