In five full paragraphs, identify, explain, and offer an analytical reflection in your own words about 3-5 core concepts from the module. Clearly state what the concepts are, explain them in your own words, then offer analysis. Be mindful that I’m not asking for a summary. I’m asking for you to unpack and make sense of everything—question what you read. Make connections between themes within and beyond the modules. Don’t tell me how you feel. Let me know what you think. Whose perspectives are most prominent, and whose voices are silenced? What ideas are new to you? How do the ideas build on your understanding of institutions such as the economy, family, media, education, and religion? What are the intersections between the module’s concepts and gender, race, income, sexuality, etc.? In which ways were you challenged to think differently? You have a broad canvas to explore the concepts that speak to you. Paint! Go beyond submitting something generic; give me the most engaging essay you can create.
Be sure to include details in each paragraph that you would only know to include because you completed the reading, viewed all the films, thought critically about the graphics, looked deeper into the life of the highlighted person, and studied the concepts.
Every film, reading, and graphic in the module should be encapsulated in the paragraphs. How that will look is up to you. You can discuss videos, graphs, and readings that have the same theme within the same section, for example, or you can create distinct paragraphs for each.
