Grading will be based on the following criteria:
Content: demonstrates an understanding of the substance of the controversy and the issues at hand; makes use of course concepts and defines terms where appropriate
Argument/Organization: clear, precise thesis statement; the logic of the argument is easy to follow and supported by the organization of the paper; uses at least one counterargument
Evidence: uses a variety of examples to support the argument; connections between evidence and argument are clear and easy-to-follow
Citation: makes appropriate references to source materials both in the text of the paper and in works cited list (choose any style and be consistent); cites at least 5 academic or news sources (no Wikipedia, blogs, etc.)
Mechanics: free from errors in grammar, punctuation, etc.; few typos
