What information will you bring to the interdisciplinary team meeting?

Necessary Information vs Right to Privacy: A social worker is a part of a multi-disciplinary team in a major medical center that must decide who will be the recipient of a liver that is available for transplant. Each member of the team provides information in his or her area of expertise to the general team meeting, and a decision is made jointly by all members. The pathologist addresses issues of tissue match, the physician reviews general health, the nurse discusses potential compliance with the medical regime and post-transplant medication compliance, and the pastor relays spiritual needs. The social worker’s area of expertise is the potential recipient’s personal and social functioning. In your meeting with this client, he reveals that he is a drug dealer and that he will be paying for this treatment with “cash” and that he only is paid when he is “selling”. He discusses his alcohol abuse and does not believe that this will be a problem. What information will you bring to the interdisciplinary team meeting? Should a history of alcohol abuse be included? A criminal record? His source of income? Where is the line between “necessary information” and the potential client’s right to privacy? What psychosocial factors should be considered in determining who receives scarce organs? Should any be considered at all? Post your discussion post response to the discussion board by Wednesday using your textbooks for a scholarly citation, and respond to two peers by Sunday at 11:59 pm, using scholarly citations ON EVERY POST TO THE DISCUSSION BOARD to evidence your informed opinions.
