How to Write a Researched Paper Proposal (due November 15th)
What is a research paper proposal?
Researched Paper Proposal is a paper typed in MLA format explaining the purpose, thesis, and main ideas of the paper you will write about. You can change your mind later, but for now, jot down a brief proposal that outlines your research paper (usually this proposal is about one page long).
Here are the following steps to write an effective proposal:
Step 1 – Identify the problem you will write about. You may want to analyze one of the social, economic, or foreign policy issues. You may be interested in educational or community problems as well.
Step 2 – Explain why your issue is relevant and needed to be addressed. For example, you may include statistics, facts, and expert opinions to convince your reader (one paragraph is enough.)
Step 3 – State your claim (thesis) clearly in one sentence.
Step 4 – Come up with at least three main points to prove your thesis. Keep in mind that your paper is supposed to be at least five pages long; therefore, you may think of four points.
Step 5 – Provide your suggestions on how to remedy the issue you are writing about. Another paragraph is a must.
You are getting one point per each step, 5 points for the entire proposal submitted on time via Blackboard only. Emails will not be graded.
Please see sample proposals in the Researched Paper folder.
