What is management

Write a discussion post of no more than 250 words answering the following:
• What is management? If using a common definition, be sure to elaborate on what that means in your own words.
• What are the four managerial functions that managers need to be able to perform? Briefly describe what they entail.
• Identify the different types of managers and their roles.
• Choose a company (for example, a fast-food restaurant or a clothing store) and list the types of managers they might have and how they would work together as a team.

Criteria
Question 1 – Definition of management is a good definition. It comes from a reputable source, or demonstrates a strong understanding of how management is commonly defined.
Question 2- All four functions of management, as defined in the text, are listed including a brief description.
Question 3- A strong identification of the different types of managers is given. There is enough detail regarding their roles that a person outside of the course, who is unfamiliar with management structures, may understand the nature of the assignment. Details and examples may be given about the different roles of the managers.
Question 4- Real company example with the managerial levels required and how they may interact as a team is an excellent example. One or more strong examples are given for each level and how they interact. No misconceptions are apparent in each managerial level or interactions.
