What is Marshall’s argument about the types of rights that can be guaranteed by the (nation)state?

Please answer all the question and try and use at least two sources for each question. Each question has multiple parts so please answer every part. I have attached the readings needed to complete the first and second question as well as the bonus questions. You only need to answer one of the bonus question provided. For questions 3 and 4 you will need to go over the books listed in the questions in order to answer it.

You are strongly encouraged NOT to go outside assigned readings/content/lecture. Some of our material came from readings, some material came from lectures, and some came from both. A parenthetical cite is sufficient (Weber 363). If you are using material from URLs go ahead and give the title of the document and the page number (e.g. ILO Report 74). If you cite lecture, cite it this way (Lecture 3/2/21). Citation is important given that you have more than a week to answer these questions. You do not need a “works cited” page.

I expect a high level of mechanics on these take-homes. Minimize spelling and grammar errors. The less time I spend looking at simple and fixable mistakes like typos the happier I am. The page guidelines are just that – if you go substantially over, rewrite your answer, and if you end up with very little – well that is potentially an issue as well. ”
QUESTIONS
“1) Question on Max Weber’s “The Profession and Vocation of Politics.” In this piece, Weber defines the state and explores the contradictory situation that politicians as such might find themselves in. How is his definition/analysis of the state and his views on politicians related to each other? (10 points, 2-3 pages).

2) Question on Marshall’s “Citizenship and Social Class:” What is Marshall’s argument about the types of rights that can be guaranteed by the (nation)state? How and when have they come about? How are they (or are they?) related to each other? The best answers to this question will use citations from the reading itself to answer the question. (10 points, 2-3 pages).

3). Question on Farah Stockman’s book American Made: Think about (and define) the way sociologists understand/measure social class. According to Stockman, why might these definitions fall short of describing the experience of class in American society? Be as specific as you can be. (10 points, 2-3 pages).

4) Question on electoral politics and gender: We have read now a few pieces from Carroll et al. about the gendered aspects of American elections. According to these readings – Carroll’s, McManus and Benner, Price and Ditmar, Sampaio, and Smooth – how hopeful is the picture of gender parity in political participation and representation that they have painted? What obstacles influence gender parity in politics? What factors encourage gender parity? You don’t have to cite all the chapters but I am looking for a comprehensive answer here that takes into account more than one chapter’s arguments. (10 points, 2-3 pages).

Bonus Questions: answer ONE only (up to 4 points):

Bonus A) According to C. Wright Mills, what distinguishes biography and history, troubles and issues? What is a “sociological imagination?” Why is it necessary for people to have one?

Bonus B) According to Marx and Engels in “The Manifesto of the Communist Party,” what is the bourgeoisie? What is the proletariat? When did they develop? What is the nature of the relationship between the bourgeoise and the proletariat? Are there conditions that can change the relationship, and if so, what are they?”
