What is one critique of intersectionality?

This reflection will address subjectivity and your own subject positions and is worth 30% of your final grade. It must be 750 words in length (I will deduct marks if you go over the word count; I would recommend keeping the word count as instructed) double spaced excluding the title page and the reference page. A breakdown of how I will grade the assignment is included in these instructions. This assignment is due onJune 6 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (Victoria time). Question 1: 16 points total
a) Using two scholarly sources (outside of those used in class), define intersectionality.
b) After this, fully explain why intersectionality is so important within the parameters of feminist thought and activism.
c) What is one critique of intersectionality?
Question 2: 10 points total
Identify four parts/aspects of your own subject position (i.e.: race, class, ability, sex, gender, geographic location, country of origin, body size, etc.). Explain how each of them grants you social power (for example, if you are White, this means you do not have to contend with racism) or marginalizes you (for example, as a woman, even if you don’t necessarily feel marginalized, you are far more at risk of sexual violence than a man). (10 marks total)

a) 10 marks per part of your subject position (1.25 points for naming each, 1.25 marks for explaining how it grants you power/marginalize you). 10 points total.
Spelling and Grammar pointers:
a) Be sure to have a clear topic sentence at the start of each answer (for example, if a question asks you to explain your own subject position, a potential topic sentence could be “My subject position is located at the intersections of Hispanic background, female gender identity, middle-class socio-economic status……..”).
b) Do not make sweeping claims that you cannot back up with research (for example, the claim that men have always done a specific thing is impossible to substantiate. Is it really possible to determine if all men, across all time and geographic locations, have done a specific thing? What about trans men? etc….)
c) Write in full, clear sentences. Avoid trying to sound “academic”- write clearly, and when in doubt, use short sentences.
d) Avoid repetition- say someone once, then move on to your next point.
e) Proofread carefully, avoid typos and grammatical errors.
This assignment requires:
An introduction or topic sentence where you identify the article/text/topic you will discuss.
A thesis statement where you clearly state what you will discuss in your reflection.
Two secondary sources
A conclusion where you briefly summarize your key points.
Your reflection paper should be in APA format APA.
It must be 750 words in length (3 pages) excluding title page and reference page, double spaced, Times New Roman size 12 font.
