We watched a TED talk in class about the challenges of treating opioid addiction from the perspective of a patient whose addiction started with a prescription. In this documentary, you can hear the perspectives of other patients, an opioid-prescribing doctor, law enforcement officials, and other various witnesses. After hearing these diverse perspectives, answer the following questions:
In your opinion, whose responsibility is it to prevent and/or punish illegal redistribution of prescription opioids? Doctors or police – or is it no one’s responsibility?
What is one issue described in this documentary that you feel Dr. Hurwitz or law enforcement officials could have handled better? Describe why you think they were wrong and offer at least one alternative solution.
