What is one reason to incorporate virtualization into cloud computing?

Need 75 – 100 words per topic

Topic 1: SSID
Service Set Identifier (SSID), also known as the wireless network
name, identifies the wireless network. An SSID is configured on the
wireless AP (on the access point for the infrastructure mode) or on an
initial wireless client (for ad hoc mode). The SSID is periodically
advertised by the wireless AP or the initial wireless client using a
special 802.11 MAC management frame. Do some research on securing the
SSID on wireless networks and share your findings with your classmates.
Include a relevant question to your classmates. Cite your resources.

Topic 2: Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing goes hand-in-hand with virtualization. Do some
research on this topic and describe a scenario of a cloud company’s
infrastructure that is virtualized. What is one reason to incorporate
virtualization into cloud computing? What are the security risks for
clients using a cloud-based service? Cite your resources.

Topic 3: Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
The TPM (Trusted Platform Module) chip is used for hardware-based
encryption, storing cryptographic keys, passwords, or certificates. It
is commonly associated with Microsoft’s BitLocker. How would you
determine if your current system has this chip? Describe the use of
BitLocker. Explain if and when you would use BitLocker. Include a
question for your classmates. Cite your resources.

Topic 4: Demilitarized Zone ( DMZs)
It is a common practice to place Web servers in the DMZ
(demilitarized zone) which can make them a target for hackers. What
would you do to protect your Web servers? Name three vulnerabilities you
would guard against. Share your ideas with your classmates. Include a
question for your classmates. Cite your resources.

Topic 5: Myth of Unbreakable Code
Discuss the myth of unbreakable code including the most common
code-breaking techniques. Can encryption algorithms be broken? Research
frequency analysis, brute force attack or other code-breaking methods.
Describe the use of one of these techniques. Cite your resources.

Topic 6: PGP
Do some research on PGP (also gnupg — the open source system)
including its history, function, encryption algorithms and current
status. Were you aware that you could have your own public/private
encryption system? Briefly describe how it works. You can view a
tutorial on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown PGP website. Would
you like to collaborate with a classmate to create your public/private
key pair and test an encrypted message between you two?

Topic 7: Security Breaches
Almost every day you learn that another organization’s confidential
information has been compromised by a security breach. Research a recent
security breach, malware infection, or denial-of-service attack.
Summarize how the attack occurred. Discuss how it impacted the
organization(s) (For example: decreased productivity, loss of
credibility, market share, etc.). Refer to the Reading and outline at
least two suggestions you would make to reduce the likelihood of another
breach like this one. Cite your resources.

Topic 8: Rootkits
The definition of a rootkit, according to the reading is: “Software
program that has the ability to obtain root-level access and hide
certain things from the operating system.” Do some Internet research and
search on the following terms: “white paper, rootkits, and Symantec®”.
Explain how a rootkit “hides” and what can be done to find and remove
them. Share one breach that was the result of a rootkit with classmates.
Cite your resources.

Topic 9: Biometrics
Investigate the various types of biometric devices to verify the
identity of a person. Which of these would you recommend for employees
of a small manufacturing company? Share your recommendation with
classmates and respond to any concerns. What are the liabilities of your
suggestion? Do you have an approximate cost per employee? Cite your
resources.

Topic 10: Social Engineering
Go to YouTube.com. Research Jayson Street and his DEFCON talks on
social engineering. Watch a video and write your discussion post on what
you have learned. How easy was it for him to social engineer a site?
What type of site did he compromise? Do you now believe the user is the
weakest part of our security?

Topic 11: Incident Response Steps
State the details
of an incident that you have read about (Example: breach due to attack,
employee theft of data, etc.) and then use the incident response steps
to analyze how you would handle the incident. Be certain to clearly name
and define each step (Step 1: Identifying the Incident, etc.). Cite
your references.

Topic 12: Business Continuity Planning
Give at least two reasons for the IT department to be involved in
business continuity planning and business impact analysis. Do some
research on these topics and share with your classmates your thoughts on
the tangible and intangible impact an event such as a flood or fire can
have on an organization.
