Conceptual Research Paper on Wine Business Topic
PAPER FORMAT
Typed, single-space – 12 point font. Include HEADINGs (14 point font) and sub-headings (12 pt. font). Use APA reference
formatting for REFERENCE section and WITHIN PAPER (see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ for
details). Write in 3RD PERSON (not 1st person; no I’s, no you/we).
Make sure to write an abstract, introduction, conclusion, and include your list of references at end.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINE BUSINESS RESEARCH PAPER (10 to 15 pages)
1) TOPIC: Identify a wine business research topic that interests you, and has global implications (see list below).
a. POTENTIAL TOPICS: Digital wine marketing, wine distribution, e-commerce, wine regulations,
wine consumers, responsible drinking, environmental issues; ethical issues with wine; new
technologies for winemaking; viticulture methods that impact business decisions; innovation in wine;
sustainability, wine tasting, climate change impact on wine, non-alcoholic wine, packaging, etc.
2) RESEARCH QUESTION/INTRODUCTION: Identify a research question around the topic. Your research question
should be documented at the end of your Introduction section.
3) LIT REVIEW: Conduct a literature review and identify at least 20 – 30 references – with 10 being from peer-
reviewed journals (see list below – available online at SSU Library) Write up the literature review using headings to
show different sub-topic areas. There should be at least 3 different sub-topics. This should comprise at least 50% of
your paper, and should come BEFORE your model.
4) MODEL: Create a conceptual model of some type to answer your research question, e.g. a flowchart, a process, a
sequence of steps, and model, etc. (see example articles). Make sure to describe how each part of your model will
work. Your model should be based on what you learned from the literature review. Model is worth 10 points.
5) IMPLICATIONS: Write up implications section. What does review of literature tell you? What is the current state
of this topic in wine business? How can this be applied to wine businesses?
6) LIMITATIONS/FUTURE RESEARCH: What are the limitations of your research? What additional research needs
to be done, or questions need to be answered?
7) REFERENCES: Include your list of 20 – 30 references at end of paper in APA format. PLEASE note that a
minimum of 10 references MUST be from Peer-reviewed wine journals (see list below)
PRESENTATION – Prepare a formal 10-minute presentation of your paper, covering all major items listed above (2 to 7).
Note that the literature review portion will probably be at least 3 slides.
PEER REVIEWED WINE JOURNALS – At least 10
references must come from these journals.
