• Are there upcoming economic problems that should concern policy makers?
• What are the proposed remedies for these problems?
• What is your assessment of these remedies? Will they be effective? What is their success conditional on? Do these remedies involve trade-offs of competing goals?
• Rate separately the country’s monetary and fiscal policy. Which is performing better?
• Which macroeconomic theories are applicable to the country? Does the country’s data show behaviour consistent with theory?
Presentation:
– You will have 15-20mins to present your project to the class. Start by introducing your project, its goals/objectives and history to date.
– Then answer the above question and walk the class through your analysis.
– There will be an additional 5-minutes for questions from myself and the class.
Report:
A short-written report (max 10-pages excluding appendices for graphs) must be submitted to me within one-week after the presentation. The report should summarize the above and incorporate feedback from your classmates.
Grading scheme:
50% – quality of analysis: accuracy and reasonableness of assumptions.
20% – Clarity and effectiveness of presentation. Would your presentation convince investors or a board of directors that this is a well-managed and worthwhile financial endeavour?
30% – written report: is it well-written? Concise? Succinct? Does it get the key points across in a minimal amount of pages?
