Question 1: In a game, what is the
relationship between form and content? Provide an example of a game and explain
how that example supports your answer.
Question 2: In this
course, we have occasionally thought about the invention of a game by using the
metaphor of parent and child. Parentage can be a useful way of thinking about
how a game came into being. What is the parent of the modern Olympic Games?
Explain.
The second two questions require a more substantial
written answer. 900 words each. Grammar and spelling should be excellent and
the answer should be to the point, complete, and well organized. Please make
sure you address the question. You are expected to support your answer with a
specific example, and explain how that example relates to the question and to
your answer. Cite sources.
Question 3: As a term used in this course,
what is synthesis? Explain.
Question 4: In many
ways, the invention of the computer in the second half of the twentieth century
was radically new. It spawned a radically new kind of game. Yet, as we’ve seen
in this course, there was something old about the games it spawned as well.
What continuity was there between computer/video games and games that came
before them? Explain.
