• What is the specific problem you plan to investigate within this topic?
• The Thesis Statement (View the Power Point on “Writing a Thesis Statement” in Support Materials in Blackboard.
• From your Thesis Statement, what are 3 or 4 key areas for which you will conduct research for your Literature Review?
• Who do you plan to interview in the community regarding possible solutions to the topic? (List at least 3 sources for your interview and why these persons have been selected) You may not interview professors in the criminal justice department.
Points to Remember
• This is not a typical research paper. It is a project that you will need to identify a problem and conduct research as well as consult community persons to make recommendations to resolve the issue.
• This is a project that you will have to develop over the semester in incremental parts.
• When you select a topic from the suggested instructor’s list, you will need to outline a problem within that topic that exists within the Criminal Justice System. You Are Not writing a paper detailing facts about the topic. For example, if you select a topic related to probation and parole, you are not going to write your paper, detailing the components of probation and parole. Instead, you will identify a recurring problem within probation and parole, conduct research and interview community resource persons for possible solutions.
• The advantage of writing and submitting your paper in increments will provide you to make revisions, additions and deletions to your paper, before the final submission in the event that you are not on the right track. The end goal is that everyone will learn from this experience and submit a strong final paper.
