Thesis- summary of the topic ( Brown Skin Girl Music Video)
Tradition- Language, beauty, colorism, segregation, immigration, war, etc.
Students will create a project that discusses the ways that Beyoncé updates typical American traditions and asks us to rethink the foundations and assumptions of American culture. Students will need to identify the original tradition, how that tradition is amended, and use at least two credible sources on the artistic work in question and/or the tradition in question to their project.
Research Requirements: All artifacts should have at least two sources plus the two original texts (meaning your bibliography/list of sources/works cited page should have at least four entries). Students may choose MLA, APA, or Chicago style for papers, and should have a list of sources in one of those styles at the end of the digital presentation or on a page (or the bottom) of the webpage.
Questions to consider:
What is the tradition being amended?
How has the contemporary artist updated/amended the tradition?
Why did this tradition need updating?
What is the new tradition? What “improvements” were made? Why?
